Let’s be kids.
Do you remember the times your parents told you not to do something but you did it anyway?
Do you remember having no plans for the day and simply going where your curiosity takes you?
Do you remember being happy and thinking everyone else around you was too?
Do you remember being someone's shadow and asking all the questions that came into your mind?
I remember being called a “chiva”, not only because I rooted for the soccer team, but because I wasn't afraid to climb trees, hold bugs, or jump off the highest step on the porch stair case. I remember following around mi abuelito, Patete, and helping him feed the ranch animals thinking I could be like him one day. I remember laying next to him at night when I was all showered and ready for bed and falling asleep while we watched a Vicente Fernandez movie. It was simple.
Growing up hits us with the reality that not everything in life is how we would like it to be. We’ve adapted to meet the challenges that come with growing up; rules, routines, heartbreaks, injustice.
As kids, if we were curious about something we asked questions, we got closer, and we investigated it. If we wanted something we went for it, until someone told us not to. Similarly today, when we set goals we tend to allow others' opinions on our capabilities limit us. Even worse, sometimes we limit ourselves.
Maybe we just need to do what we feel and remember the feeling of having the world at our feet, because we do.
Let’s be kids again.
